How to successfully attend commencement
7 tips and tricks to maneuver through the day in the best way possible
Commencement is such an exciting time in graduates’ lives! Friends and family come together to cheer you on and celebrate your achievements. But
when the entire gang gets together (all 30,000 of us), we need some tips and tricks to maneuver through the day the best way possible.
It’s best to arrive prepared, knowing what to bring (and leave home). With a little preparation, you can focus on the excitement that commencement brings.
What you need to know:
The easiest access to Sun Devil Stadium is via light rail, which will drop you off right in front of the stadium and is inexpensive to ride. Traveling via light rail eliminates worry about parking, traffic, paying for parking and other stressors.
If light rail isn’t an option, don’t worry. There are parking garages designated for commencement parking and maps to show you exactly where to go. Parking will be available in Lot 59, the stadium parking structure and the Packard parking structure.
The stadium opens at 6 p.m., and no ticket is required to attend commencement, so it’s best to get there early. If you want the perfect seat — and maybe the perfect parking space, too — get there early!
Sun Devil Stadium’s clear bag policy will be in effect, so be sure to come prepared with one, and not your fabulous new purse.
A list of prohibited items is located on thesundevils.com.
You may bring in a factory-sealed water bottle smaller than 1 ½ liters if you choose, and there will be water stations available for refills. No other food or drink is allowed, but concession stands will be open. Cameras are also allowed, but only graduates and faculty members are allowed on the field.
Temperatures for this year’s commencement are expected to be in the mid 70s, with some scattered clouds.
Note: In case of inclement weather, make sure to review our Inclement Weather Plan for Sun Devil Stadium.
Before the ceremony starts, there will be live entertainment. We will also be broadcasting the whole event live, so even your great aunt from Rhode Island can see you graduate!
Commencement day is going to be great! By following these tips, you can help make the day go smoother.
Happy commencement, Sun Devils!
