Welcome Week at ASU is full of fun and excitement, and at Polytechnic campus, there are a ton of exciting events. Here are the top 10 you can’t miss!

1. Sweet Treats
ASU Polytechnic residents moving into South Desert Village or West Desert Village on Aug. 11 are invited to take a break and stop by the Barrett Community House at 6359 S. Terripin. Frozen treats and cool drinks will be available from 9 a.m. to noon to help you beat the August heat! This is also a great time to meet some new people!

ASU’s Baja SAE team is based in the Simulator Building on the Polytechnic campus. They recently competed in Baja SAE Oregon, one of three Baja SAE competitions held nationwide in 2018 by the Society of Automotive Engineers that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their challenges.

4. Devils’ BBQ

The Programming and Activities Board hosts a number of Poly traditions, including the Devils’ BBQ from 6 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 21. Come for a delicious BBQ dinner and the best live music around. All Poly students are invited!

5. Game Night at Polytechnic campus library
Stop by the Poly library between 6 and 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 for fun games, cool prizes and free pizza. Enjoy multi-player board games, trivia, online games, or bring your own favorite game to enjoy with friends.

BONUS! The following university-wide events are for all Sun Devils!

6. Sun Devil Welcome

Sun Devil Welcome is the biggest and possibly the best event of Welcome Week! All freshmen head to Tempe campus and Wells Fargo Arena on Aug. 14 to learn what it means to be a Sun Devil and experience ASU tradition and pride. This is an awesome chance to get a free t-shirt and hear directly from ASU President Michael Crow! There will be shuttles to Tempe from all campuses.

7. Culture Fest
Following Sun Devil Welcome is Culture Fest, which is equally as fun. Celebrate ASU’s culture of inclusion with music, international food, activities, (t-shirts) and performances.

8. Passport to ASU
Passport to ASU is the easiest way to explore all the ways to get involved around campus. All the ASU clubs get together on Aug. 15 around the Memorial Union, Sun Devil Fitness Complex and Student Pavilion to showcase what their clubs are about. You can get information from their booths and check out their meetings to see what clubs you might want to join!

9. Sparky’s Day of Service

Each year, Sun Devils demonstrate commitment to service through large-scale events and everyday service. Make service a part of your Sun Devil experience by volunteering along with more than 2,000 students during Sparky’s Day of Service! Opportunities are available at every campus; dates, times and locations vary.

10. Whitewash the ‘A’

Whitewashing the ‘A’ on ‘A’ Mountain — also known as Hayden Butte — is the wrap-up event of Welcome Week, and every freshman is invited! Painting the A only happens twice a year, and Aug. 18 will be one of those special occasions. It’s one of the longest-standing traditions at ASU, having signaled a fresh new start to the school year since the 1930s. There will be shuttles for this event as well!

There are so many fun Welcome Week events, so go check out the full list for all the events you won’t want to miss and download the Devils on Campus App in the App Store or Google Play to customize your Welcome event plans in the palm of your hand!
